Boehringer Ingelheim, in partnership with IDS Scheer, has developed a company-wide business process management (BPM) framework to standardise operating procedures. The improved transparency makes it possible to implement processes more quickly and efficiently, enabling the company to react more flexibly to changing market requirements.
Boehringer Ingelheim belongs to one of the top 20 leading explorative pharmaceutical manufacturers in the world and is made up of 135 companies. IDS Scheer has helped the organisation meet company-wide standardised requirements for holistic process management, in order to plan and undertake long-term strategic management measures.
With the global implementation of IDS Scheer’s ARIS software to help refine existing business processes, the role and responsibilities of each process manager are clearly defined. The need to coordinate departmental and international processes is reduced. This delivers more flexibility during process changes as well as facilitating the identification of interfaces and possible weak points.
"The international framework for business process management creates more transparency in the company. Therefore, Boehringer Ingelheim is able to adapt processes more efficiently to the changes in the pharmaceutical market and ensure the company's lead over the competition," said Dr. Torsten Grünewald, Corporate IS Governance, Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH. Throughout the course of the project, the expenditure for SAP implementation dropped significantly below the usual costs.
"Boehringer Ingelheim has developed an exemplary standardised global basis for holistic business process management. The reduced expenditure on its SAP implementation shows the solution has positively impacted on the performance of the company, even in the project phase," commented Dr. Dirk Oevermann, Executive Board member for the DACH and EMEA regions at IDS Scheer. “The success is the reason why we awarded Boehringer Ingelheim the Business Process Excellence Award in the Enterprise BPM category at ARIS ProcessWorld 2008.”
